2016 Poem a Day Challenge #14

April is National Poetry Writing Month! The challenge is to write a poem every day of the month. I’m using prompts from Writer’s Digest, NaPoWriMo and Kelli Russell Agodon’s list. Occasionally, I may use my own prompt ideas as well.

Today’s Prompt:

Write a book spine poem.

My heart is a large kingdom,
made of good bones and talking poems
built on sweet violence and simple murders.
The music of a distant drum
across a dark and wild sea
speaking of beauty, death and drama
calls open wide the freedom gates
to freedom roads.
The Gatekeeper, the modern poet,
fights the Great war,
dreams the sweetest dream
and all my wars are laid away in books
in a corner of the universe.
