April is National Poetry Writing Month! The challenge is to write a poem every day of the month. I’m using prompts from Writer’s Digest, NaPoWriMo and Kelli Russell Agodon’s list. Occasionally, I may use my own prompt ideas as well.
Write a poem about a sound. If the sounds are peaceful, write a poem with a violent word as the title. If the sounds are loud, write a poem with a kind word as the title.
I recall your mother retching, weeping
moaning in his bed but never sleeping
singing a symphony of sadness
her boy a whisper in a storm
and she raw from screaming
in tongues of bitter worship
to the God who beats death
but not this one.
